1.Check your passport and apply for any necessary visas

Check the expiration date of your passport. Most countries will not let you in if the expiration date is less than 6 months away.

Tourist visas are needed to visit many nations around the world and not all countries offer visas on arrival.

The visa application process may be more complicated and time-consuming than you’d expect. So submit your visa application early and ensure it will be valid for your entire stay.

Don’t forget to make a photocopy of the information page of your passport and the visa page for your destination.

2.Check for travel warnings and advisories

Find out whether government has issued a travel warning or a travel alert.

Travel alerts are short-term events you should know about when planning travel to a country. When travel warning is issued you should consider very carefully whether you should go to a country at all.

Many travel insurance policies will not cover travel to countries that are under travel warnings.

Also write down the addresses and phone numbers of any embassies or consulates of you country in the destinations you’ll be visiting. In case you need to contact them.

3.Get vaccinated and fill prescriptions

Before you book a trip try to find out health information and vaccination requirements for your destination.

You may need to get special vaccines or medications as a precaution against various diseases. In any case you should get any required shots 6 weeks before you depart.

4.Prepare your money

Make sure your credit card will work in the country you’re visiting.

Before you leave call your bank and credit card providers to inform them of which countries you will be visiting. This way, your bank’s fraud department will not freeze your account.

5.Buy health & travel insurance

Before you travel, check your health insurance policy. It is likely that your health insurance won’t cover you while you’re traveling abroad.

If your health insurance doesn’t include international coverage, consider buying a short-term policy that will cover you while you’re abroad.

Travel insurance is a smart way to protect your trip and your money. It will protect you against trip interruption or cancellation.
